The GEMS World Academies in Chicago and Singapore just got a little closer. In October our 1st grade friends in Singapore kindly took the time to respond to our survey questions about play. Their teacher, Ms. Ryan, suggested that our two classes become pen pals in an effort to deepen our global connection and support their inquiry into changes in technology in regards to communication. They are looking at postcards and letter writing and how that has changed over time. We just finished letters thanking them for helping us with our inquiry and asking questions about their lives, their school, and how they're managing with the smoke blowing over Singapore from the Indonesian forest fires. Our crew here in Chicago will be imagining these letters' sojourn across the Pacific this week and anticipating our pen pals' replies.
